House of Wax(2005)(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

There are those remakes that do well, and those that are pretty lackluster. House of Wax(2005) is an example of the latter. The film is about a group of college kids who are on they way to a football game. One of their cars breaks down, so a couple of them go into a nearby town to find help. The town is practically abandoned, and the only thing of interest is a wax museum. The wax figures within seem real..almost too real, and as the kids discover, they are chosen to be part of the exhibit.

The movie is almost a snoozefest as it takes almost 40 mins before the killing gets started. Before that, it’s just a bunch of coeds partying, walking from one place to another, running into very suspicious people, then walking some more. Once things start to ramp up, it keeps it going until the end. The gore in this movie is very grotesque as you watch someone being covered in molten wax. Then later on, someone tries to help by peeling the wax off, and is removing their skin in the process. Besides that, the other interesting kill is the one involving Paris Hilton’s character. This is one of her first movies she was involved in, and of course, she is doing what she does best, which is being vain and pretty. It was satisfying to see her die.

Everything leads to something along the lines of a Scooby-Doo ending, then right before the movie ends, it leaves us with the most pointless reveal ever. Like I literally threw my hands up saying why does this even matter now?
Definitely not the best horror movie, and it was a case where the remake did not match the original film. I would say watch it if you are curious as to what it is about, but don’t expect too much.

Till next time, stay scared!
