Don’t Breathe 2(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

Can someone who is a monster actually be worthy of redemption? That is a question that Don’t Breathe 2 answers as it takes the villian from the first movie and makes him into an anti-hero.

Following the events from the first film, we see the blind veteran who now has a daughter he adopted and he subject her to tests to teach her how to survive. One night, home invaders come to attempt to kidnap her, and he goes on a mission from hell to get her back.

Some things that are cool about this film is the camera work. When the little girl is trying to elude the invaders, we actually follow her as she goes in all the nooks and crannies of the house. The first half of the movie is actually pretty brilliant once again pitting the blind man against the invaders within the house. Once again, we see his killer instinct kicks as he is willing to do anything to protect what is his.

But then we learn as monstrous as he is, there are worse monsters than him when we learn the identity of the invaders and why they wanted to kidnap his “daughter”. The second half of the movie is not as streamlined but will still leave you satisfied. It leads to an ending that will not leave you dry eyed, but stay tuned for a post credit scene that will tease a possible third movie.

Essentially, the sequel is more so a thriller than a horror movie, and gives you some tense moments. I did like the fact how the blind man who was willing to do anything to get a daughter, even going so far to commit despicable acts in the first movie, was given a redemption arc this time around. Stephen Lang once again turns in a great performance as you watch him be the badass that his character is.
