Jurassic World Dominion(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

It’s all lead to this. Jurassic World Dominion is the final entry in the Jurassic World universe and may be the final entry of the Jurassic Park franchise. Of course it would go big, and with lofty expectations, did it reach its mark? Yes and no. It wasn’t perfect but it was not this huge disappointment that critics made it out to be.

The plot follows after the dinosaurs escaped into our world in the final moments of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. Dinosaurs and humans are learning how to coexist together in this new era. Meanwhile, Dr Alan Grant and Dr Ellie have been recruited by Dr Ian Malcolm to investigate the source of a new threat arising. At the same time, Owen Grant and Claire Dearing are trying to protect Maisie as well as the offspring of the velociraptor Blue from those who want to use their DNA for their own profits.

So we get both old and new with a surprise villian in the form of Lewis Dodgson. Those familiar with the Jurassic Park will remember him from his small appearance in the first film. He was recast in this movie, and he is just as nefarious. On the dinosaur side, we see dinosaurs from the franchise make an appearance with some genetic hybrids added in. The new dinosaurs add a new level of terror such as a huge Godzilla sized carnivore known as Gigantosaurus and another dinosaur I am affectionately calling Edward Scissorhandasaurus. We also get a glimpse of a scientifically accurate Raptor with feathers. It took about 29 years to get there, but at least we finally got it.

So where I feel the movie suffers is that it focuses too much on the human characters. The threat they are dealing with really isn’t that credible of a threat compared to the dinosaurs. We wanted more of dinosaurs attacking and devouring humans or other dinosaurs. Yes we got some of that, enough to satisfy, but I don’t think I was alone in wanting more. This is an issue with any recent giant monster movie, where the focus gets too wrapped up in human issues instead of giving us what we really want to see. And did the director really have to be lazy and essentially rehash the scene of the T-Rex battling another dinosaur, is on the verge of defeat, but then wins due to assistance of another dinosaur. I was like, hey I seen this before. I mean it was cool to see and all but still.

If you love dinosaurs and Jurassic Park, then you will love this. Definitely has nostalgic moments and Easter eggs for those who watched every movie. It is exciting and like I said, far from perfect, but should leave you satisfied. If this is truly the end, I would be satisfied with this being final entry. It leaves everything open ended so the viewers can imagine more adventures for the dinosaurs to have in their continued coexistence with our planet.

The movie is currently still playing in theaters which I do recommend seeing it. If you already seen Jurassic World Dominion, feel free to leave your thoughts below!

Till next time, stay scared!
