Satanic Hispanics(Review) - Gruesome Gazette

Horror anthologies are always a mix bag in never knowing what you will get. Satanic Hispanics is a horror anthology featuring notable Spanish horror directors such as Damian Rugna and Alejandro Brugues and it’s pretty mild as to what you are getting into here.

There are 5 tales here, one of them consisting of a wrap-around of a man known as The Traveler who is being detained at a police station and being questioned about why he is here. He warns them something bad is going to happen if they don’t let him go and tells them different stories throughout his journey.

The first story is called También Lo Vi which is a solid entry coming Rugna about a man discovered a secret ritual that let’s see him see presences that others cannot and the ending is absolutely mind bending.

Then we go to the second entry called El Vampiro which is goofy splatstick tale about a very incompetent vampire. The third tale Nahuales goes into the dark and fantastical with the power of blood magic being used to enact revenge.

We then go to the 4th story called The Hammer of Zanzibar who is about a man who had to kill all his friends due to being possessed by demons and has one last confrontation where he fights with a very unconventional weapon. It gets pretty goofy at the end with a song playing with the chorus saying “I’m Going To Kill You”.

We conclude with the ending of the wrap-around which shows The Traveler having to escape from the living embodiment of death.

There’s some strong entries, but for the most part I wasn’t as impressed as I initially thought I would be. It’s definitely an anthology to see especially if you like Spanish horror, but not really something that will leave a lasting impression on you. If you decide to see it, it is currently streaming on Shudder.
