There are those movies that exist that are unsettling from the jump. I didn’t expect Longlegs to be so unnerving but it absolutely was. It left me feeling like I needed to shower but I still couldn’t be clean afterwards. It’s a roller-coaster ride straight into hell.
The plot sees an FBI agent Lee Harker assigned to an unsolved case that delves into the occult and trying to track down the person behind it. The killer in question personally targets her, and leaves a trail of breadcrumbs that connects with a dark past.
Nicholas Cage is unrecognizable as the antagonist, and he can be unsettling but it was even more so here. There’s a atmosphere of dread that never dissipates the entire run time of the film. I would say stark terror is very much the vibe as well.
The way this one grasps onto you and never loses it grip is pretty remarkable. It’s very captivating. There are occult and satanic references throughout. And then you have the dolls. Those dolls are really creepy.
Then there’s the gut punch of the twist that comes later and the ending is jaw dropping to say the least. The final line we are left with is “Hail Satan”. Hail Satan indeed.
Yeah, if I would have been able to watch this one last year, it definitely would have been high on my list of top 10 horror of 2024. Regardless, it’s still high on my list. It’s that good. It’s that terrifying. And oh yeah, it will absolutely mess with your mind.
It’s currently streaming on Hulu, so if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.
