Little Bites(Review) - Gruesome Gazette

Following the lead of his brother Rob Zombie, Spider One has also dived into directing horror films, and Little Bites is an example of that. Also Cher(yes that Cher) was an producer. It’s an exploration of an ultimate sacrifice a mother has to make for her child.

The plot is about a young widow who resigns herself to let a monster slowly eat her alive in order to protect her daughter.

The symbiotic relationship between the mother and the creature is pretty unique. We start off right off the bat with her allowing it to feed on parts of her body. She tried reasoning with it to no avail. And she can tell no one about what’s really going on, not even to her own mother. The mother is understandably harsh towards her.

It takes a bit for it to happen, but eventually the mother decides to stand up to the creature. She decides to bring her daughter home with her as she originally was keeping her away from the situation. She even tries offering other alternatives to the creature to sate its appetite. The creature eventually finds access to her daughter and flexs it’s true power.

The ending sees that sometimes the eater will find itself being eaten.

The film is very solemn in a way with exploring what it is like being a new mother and also coping with loss. The creature is terrifying to look at in the way it was designed. All in all, it’s a pretty fun film. It’s currently streaming on Shudder if you want to check it out.
