Control Freak(Review)

Family inheritances can differ, some people inherit property or money, some people inherit literal family demons. Control Freak is such a movie that explores that and about how it is to not always be in control and be a slave to your impulses.

The story is about a motivational speaker being plagued by an uncontrollable itch she constantly needs to scratch. She then learns she had been infected by a parasitic demon and tries to wrestle to get her own life back.
Where this movie will make your skin crawl is the constant scratching sound. And it gets worse when other implements get involved. There are also signs that it is psychological in nature but also supernatural could be cause as well.

That’s where Japanese folklore adds more by introducing us to the Yokai and a particular demon known as Sanshi. The woman finds out she was chosen at its host. She also discovers there isn’t a way to stop it. She tries everything to no avail.

As we near the end, the woman is desperate to stop the demon so she takes drastic methods. But even that isn’t enough so there’s just one more attempt to rid herself of her infestation once and for all. The ending also shows even through suffering a beautiful life can be found.

This film will make you cringe, especially when it gets to the more gorier moments. There are moments of where it’s uncertain if the main character isn’t just going mad. There’s always ants around everywhere as a way to signify the demon’s presence. Some unnerving moments that happen as well.

It’s worth checking out especially if you like body horror, psychological horror, and some bloody moments. The movie is currently streaming on Hulu.
