Gruesome Gazette

Elevation(2024)(Review)

An apocalyptical sci fi horror, Elevation sees humanity facing extinction from alien threats, and it reminded a bit of A Quiet Place with its set up.

The plot is about a planet facing an infestation of creatures known as Reapers, and the only shelter is at 8000 ft where the creatures don’t want to venture. However low on supplies, a small band have to brave the journey down below and try to survive long enough to make it back.

The design of the Reaper are insectoid in nature and the creatures are very hard to kill due to armor plated shells. They are very fast and vicious, but they cannot cross a certain line. There’s a literal line that marks the elevation level that the creatures don’t want to cross.

Above that line, people are trying to live a civilized life again, but as they run low on supplies needed, they are left with no choice but to go in the danger zone again.

Throughout the movie other than encounters with the Reapers, we watch people trying to cope with their losses and just trying to live normal lives again. It leads to some solemn moments.

Toward the end, they finally discover a weakness, and they end up taking the fight to the Reapers. Yet we get a post credit scene that hints as to the origin of the creatures and more are on their way.

In all I thought the film was decent, but it’s not going to offer much different than other films like it. Just humans again giant monsters. There’s maybe one death, otherwise just people narrowing avoiding being killed. The design of the Reapers are pretty neat. I liked it enough. It’s currently streaming on Max if you decide to check it out.
