End of Days(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

Arnold Schwarzenegger in a horror movie? And the movie actually turns out to be good? Who would have thought? I am of course talking about the very underrated movie End of Days.

The movie is about a security guard who ends up having to protect a woman who is chosen to conceive a child with the devil. If they are successful, they will bring about the apocalypse. This movie came out in 1999, around the time of the Y2K scare where people were convinced that when the clock struck midnight on December 31, 1999 that the world would end.

The movie itself is full of frightening images as well as being action packed. With the amount of explosions that happen within the film I had to double check to make sure Michael Bay was not somehow involved in producing the flick. I think one of my favorite parts of the movie is when Arnold’s character is getting his ass handed to him by a robust old lady. There are messages within about crisis of faith, and making sacrifices for the better good. One of those sacrifices drives the ending, something you rarely see in films Arnold stars in.

This movie has very dark themes and that is what makes it worth checking out. And it does sort of tie in with the holidays as well.
