Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire(Review)

The Ghostbusters films are such a joyride…I guess I’ll even include the reboot on that list I mean it might not have been what we wanted but it was fun you have to admit. So expectations were high for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and it did not disappoint. It went straight for the nostalgia value of what it was like when this franchise first started in the 80s.

The story follows the Spengler family as they are now holding the mantle of Ghostbusters and carrying on that legacy. They find a mysterious object that contains a powerful entity. The entity escapes and new must team with the old in order to stop it.

There’s so many callbacks in this one. We see the mood slime from Ghostbusters 2. Walter Peck returns as mayor. Even the library ghost makes her return. And of course Slimer makes his appearance.

Most of all we get a brand new threat and more mythos about Ghostbusters. We are introduced to two new members and we get to see Janine suit up once again as a Ghostbuster. We even got to know some more ghosts and Possesor was my favorite one.

The movie was fun, we get an apocalyptical ending where the stakes are high and see if the Ghostbusters can win the day. I won’t say much but I will say is Phoebe who is the youngest of the Spengler family ended up benched but then comes back with a major assist to save everyone’s asses against the big bad.

The big bad? Definitely very creepy. He has the ability to command ghosts which definitely ends up being a plot element. He can freeze then shatter his victims. They call him Garraka who was this ancient God and yes he came with his lore dump. Given by Patton Oswalt who plays an occult librarian.

Question is where does it go from here and the film teases the franchise will continue. Just give us more of people blasting ghosts, keep that kinetic energy of the comedy we love, and we can go home happy.

If you love the Ghostbusters franchise thus far, you will love this. Even if you not seen a single Ghostbusters film, it is still enjoyable. I was grinning like a baby and wait for the moment I can share with kids of my own. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
