Gruesome Gazette

Grafted(Review)

The debut body horror Grafted from director Sasha Rainbow has been compared to The Substance, and yes even though both are about the price to pay for beauty and fame, this one is its own beast.

The plot is about the brilliant very socially awkward student who also just wants to fit in. She is using her father’s research that leads to horrifying results as she gains the popularity she seeks.

The film is a bloody mess. It will make people wince with scenes of skin being peeled off and plethora of needles injecting unknown substances. The student faces challenges when her professor steals the research so he can take all the credit. The guy is an absolute slime ball, even having sex with one of the popular students.

Due to a birthmark on her face and also disgusting eating habits. she finds herself largely shunned. People will just up and leave her. Her own family wants nothing to do with her. So it’s understandable while she goes off on the deep end a bit.

The tormentors are taken out one by one in very brutal ways. Those with weak stomachs may want to sit this one out. My only complaint was the damn dog that was barking. It was distracting. Otherwise it’s a fun watch.

The ending, well this is where the movie gets it’s comparison to The Substance. We don’t see a whole lot but we see enough to get the idea.

If you like body horror, this is the movie for you. It’s currently streaming on Shudder if you want to check it out
