If this is your first time experiencing Idle Hands, a couple things you can tell right away is that it is definitely a 90’s movie and for a dark comedy, there is a lot of gore.
The film is about a stoner whose hand gets possessed, and it is out to kill whoever it can reach. It leads to hilarious and sometimes compromising results. His buddies are the early victims, and go throughout the rest of the movie as his undead squad.
Like most 90’s films featuring teens, this movie is very horny, has a lot of drug use, and of course pop culture references. The Offspring even show up playing at a party, though the lead singer suffers an unfortunate accident due to actions of the possessed hand. Seth Green is hilarious in this, and you may recognize the lead actor Devon Sawa from his role in Final Destination. Fun fact is Sawa is currently starring in a double role for the new Chucky TV series. You definitely need to check that out and yes there are plans to do a series review.
There are a good amount of kills throughout the movie, and they are very splattery and sometimes gross. I was impressed with how bloody it was, and it kept it all going all the way to the end. The ending was pretty underwhelming, but that’s to be expected for a 90’s movie. Idle Hands is still a popular film even today, and with it’s cast of characters as well as the practical effects, it is easy to see why. Grab your munchies, pop this on your TV, and enjoy the ride.
Till next time, stay scared!!
