Gruesome Gazette

Lanier(2023)(Review)

I’m sure you heard the legends of Lake Lanier or how people who drowned there. So you think that a horror movie about the lake would be a good idea except in this case it didn’t work out too well.

The story sees a police detective called into an investigation of a girl that went missing at Lake Lanier. He gets more than he bargained for when he and his family are chosen to be the next victims of the lake.

We get a little history lesson that goes into why everything is happening except they exaggerate the facts a little. It’s a tale of racial justice with black people targeting white families. What I couldn’t get and my fiance was confused on this too is how the spirit of the grandfather was the one showing up and demanding a sacrifice from the black cop? Was it just for revenge. Was there a certain quota because the grandfather said he just needed one more. But the whole family gets targeted? There’s much confusion about that one.

So people end up getting drugged or poisoned but then the next day that act fine like nothing happened. Then we get to the ending where masked figures kidnap the family, the black cop finally gets the balls to tell the ghost of his grandfather to hell with you and then the movie just ends. And gives no explanation as to what happened like did anyone survive? Was that the final sacrifice? I don’t like when movies just end as if they ran out of ideas and couldn’t think of anything else.

There’s a supernatural element but this film was not scary at all. It also didn’t make much sense like the dynamics of the characters or what exactly the motives are. The acting was okay and had the effects were decent. Just the story and presentation could have been better. This is currently only available to rent on Amazon Prime if you wanna check it out.
