Gruesome Gazette

Lisa Frankenstein(Review)

Even though it is set in the 80s, Lisa Frankenstein is a gothic love story for the modern age. It’s funny, enjoyable and full of energy. It comes from Diablo Cody who also gave us Jennifer’s Body and it been confirmed this movie is in the same universe.

We follow the gruesome romantic tale of a reanimated corpse and Lisa Swallows(yeah I snickered at that too) as they try to find love in all the wrong places.

The Frankenstein bit comes from the fact that Lisa finds herself in the unfortunate position of having to find body parts for the zombie living with her. She ends up resorting to murder and eventually gets in too deep. The movie is very morbid but it has its humorous moments as well. I really liked the visuals. There is a black and white sequence that is inspired by Bride of Frankenstein that I felt was a nice touch.

There are some gross bits but nothing too bad. The ending really goes for it, and will have people wincing.
I really enjoyed this one and I’m glad for that movies like this can exist. It is currently streaming on Peacock if you want you to see it for yourself!
