Sole Survivor(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

you want to see the direct inspiration behind the Final Destination films, then you will want to see Sole Survivor. It’s a rather unknown film that played with concepts of not being able to escape death.

The plot is about a woman who is the only survivor of a plane crash. She wrestles with survivor’s guilt, and as she does, dead people start appearing to her. She is left to figure out why it is happening and not end up with the same fate.

You are mostly watching this woman as she tries to pick up the pieces after the tragic event. She starts a relationship with a doctor, and sometimes gets visits from a psychic who is trying to warn her. But then when dead people start showing up, at first she doesn’t realize what is happening. She thinks it is just crazy people. Once it dawns on her, she spends the rest of the movie trying to survive even if people around her are turning up dead.

One brilliant part of the movie deals with her best friend, and the way that played out was a treat to watch. Sole Survivor is slow going, and takes time to build, but if you stick with it, you will be mostly rewarded for your efforts. You can definitely see the influences it had for the universe of Final Destination.

This film is currently streaming on Shudder if you are curious enough to check it out. It’s one of those unknowns that may surprise you with a satisfying experience.
