Stained Glass – Dichro

My very first impression of Dichro is that they are a perfect storm of 90’s alternative, grunge, industrial, and gothic rock all rolled into one. Their debut album Stained Glass encapsulates that vibe perfectly.

The music style along with the vocals of Charmaine Freemonk will call back from musicians such as Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morissette, and Shirley Manson but bringing it forwards to a modern age. There is an energy about it that just makes it all work through all 11 tracks. The way Charmaine sings brings an emotional connection, and the songs are peppy or go for the throat when they need to.

Nowhere is that more apparent than the track “Shiva’s Song”. I had the privilege of hearing this track live and just how it changes the atmosphere of the room is something that cannot be described. It’s a very emotional experience with the slow drawn out guitars and the solemn vocals to match. It’s no surprise this is my favorite track off the album, but I also enjoyed “Exhale”, “Diner Du Jour”, “Scratch”, “Mercy” and “Mercenaries”

The album released on August 9th via Distortion Productions, and I would definitely recommend checking it out. It’s very energetic and groovy, and you will have a good time with it. You can stream or purchase it here.
