A new folk horror on the block, Starve Acre is a tale of love, grief, and sacrifice. There’s an aura of strangeness in this one.
The plot sees a married couple who experiences the unexpected loss of their son and this causes them to unwillingly invite an entity in their home known as Dandelion Jack.
We see the couple both grieve in their own ways, the wife isolates herself while the husband digs by an oak tree on their property. He also uncovers the lore of Dandelion Jack.
It takes a bit for us to get there. Mostly we see the affect the loss of their son has on them. There’s a rabbit involved who may or may not be an offering from Dandelion Jack
.
The ending is when it goes all nutso. Revelations are made especially in regards to the true purpose behind the entity.
It’s very weird, but i enjoyed it. I liked the lore aspect. As folk horrors go, it scratches that itch. There’s a few brutal scenes that will shock you. This film is currently streaming on Shudder if you want to check it out.
