The Apology(Review)(Happy Horrordays #25)

Family get togethers during the holidays can be stressful especially when people just show up at your door unannounced. The Apology is a Christmas horror regarding the worst kind of visit during the holidays.

The story sees a grief stricken mother whose daughter went missing 20 years ago. She is also celebrating 20 years of sobriety. On Christmas eve, her sisters estranged ex shows up to unburden a truth that will forever change them both.

This guy…this guy….he is the worst. At first everything is okay, he’s reminiscing about the past. I guess they had a romantic fling. He’s getting her gifts, pouring on the charm, and she’s hot for it.
Then he reveals he has something to tell her about her missing daughter and is just now finally telling her. You start side-eyeing the guy but when he says what he has to say,, you say to yourself what a bastard to be telling her this during the holiday.

He’s pleads it was all a misunderstanding, a mistake but is clearly not the case. His purpose in revealing the truth is so he can take an easy out without taking accountability. He is clearly he’s playing with forces he doesn’t understand. It’s not going to be that easy no matter how much he goads the women in taking her revenge. She even tells him point blank she doesn’t give a darn what he thinks.

And what he also doesn’t understand is the best revenge is seeing justice prevail. He definitely underestimates her which is where he messed up. He even compliments how smart she is. Which comes to play in the final moments of the movie.

So the movie plays as an isolation horror except the protagonist was not totally isolated. The drama and grief contributed to heavy hitting moments. Most of the movie you will find yourself cheering the woman on. I would say it’s a pretty good holiday horror but there will be triggers. There is a happy ending however.

This film is currently streaming on Shudder if you want to look into it.
