Thrilla’s 2024 Top 10 Horror Movies

We had another prosperous year in horror, with some great hits, and quite a bit misses. Let’s break down the top 10 I felt had an impact on horror this year.

10. I Saw The TV Glow:
I was just surprised just as you was to see this one make my list but with the horror of what’s it like to lose any sense of identity, I had to put this one on here.

9. Infested:
A movie that will make any arachnophobes’ skin crawl, yeah this movie was most terrifying.

8. A Quiet Place: Day One:
A prequel that shows when the creatures first invaded which shows just how deadly these creatures were. And the acting was just brilliant.

7. Alien: Romulus:
The good news is the Xenomorph has returned back to it’s proper glory. The bad is it took a lot of fan service in the meantime. With a out of nowhere third act that puts what happened towards the end of Alien Resurrection to shame, the new Alien movie looked to right the ship but then let said ship tip over.

6. Speak No Evil:
This was another one that surprised me that actually was pretty faithful to the original. Even with changing the ending, it was still just as brutal and bleak. I was originally against it but after seeing it, yeah definitely just as good as the original.

5. Smile 2
Parker Finn has surprised me once again with this brilliant sequel that takes the first film and expands on it. More psychological. Definitely creepy. The ending pulls the rug from under you, and there is talk about Smile 3.

4. Late Night With The Devil
Found footage movies can be very brilliant and this is a perfect example. Plus we get to see a guy literally get a mind-melting experience!

3. Cuckoo:
This film was absolutely weird but I loved it. All I can say is go in blind, you will have a fun time.

2. The Substance:
This is another one it’s better to go in blind when seeing it. I can’t even describe the what the heck you are even going to witness. It’s a body horror nightmare fueled extravaganza. I absolutely loved it. The ending is like if a Cannibal Corpse album cover was brought to life. This movie was metal and damn fantastic!

1. Terrifier 3:
Art The Clown as a demented killer Santa Claus! We was gifted with a modern day Christmas slasher that did not skimp on the blood or gore. Art became even more of a hot commodity and part 4 was announced shortly after.

Honorable mentions: Hell Hole, Abigail, V/H/S Beyond, Sting, Oddity, Trap

Dishonorable mentions: Tarot, Exorcist: The Believer, In A Violent Nature, First Omen, Night Swim
