Gruesome Gazette

Unwelcome(2023)(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

Gosh do I enjoy horror films that deals with folklore that hasn’t been explored before and Unwelcome is a treat. I didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as I did, but I was clapping and cheering, and then a jaw dropping moment as the movie ends.

The plot sees a couple who are becoming parents, so they decide to relocate from their apartment to the rural countryside of Ireland. While there, they learn of mysterious creatures who will offer assistance to those in need, but the price is always too steep to pay.

The opening is very intense and almost hard to watch. It’s the catalyst that starts the whole thing off however. When the couple first arrives in the village, everyone is nice and friendly. But trauma still affects them both, leaving them both on guard, and then their fears are confirmed when they learn they are not as safe as they expected to be.

There’s talk of the creatures in the forest who come help those in need but at a terrible cost. As it turns out, the couple stumbles onto them and not long after, they are finding themselves in need if dire assistance. How far will one to go to protect one’s family?

The ending scenes of this movie is where the movie really delivers. Let’s just say if you like creature flicks like Gremlins or Critters, you are going to enjoy what happens. It gets gory super quick and I had a smile etched on my face the entire time. The atmosphere and just everything was so astounding. It’s something that has to be seen.

I went into this one completely blind and I enjoyed this one very much. As far as I can tell, the creatures were all practical effects which made it even more awesome. Plus I really loved those guys. This film is currently available to rent on Amazon and Vudu and it will eventually be streaming on Shudder. It is my recommendation you check it out.
