Warlock is a fun movie starring Julian Sands as the titular evil warlock. His commanding presence and portrayal carries this movie. The plot is about a warlock who time travels to present day in order to enact his plot to summon Satan and undo all creation in the process. It is up to a witch hunter from the past and a young woman to stop him.
The film is not exactly scary per se as it does have its silly moments. In fact I would consider it more of a dark comedy than a straight up horror movie. Most of the kills that do happen are taking place off screen. There is a scene where the warlock gains the ability to fly, and seeing him zooming about, arms crossed with his serious face just makes me chuckle every time. The film keeps you entertained up to the final showdown with the warlock in a cemetery of all places.
It did get a couple of sequels, with Julian Sands returning in Warlock II: Armageddon, and Bruce Payne playing the warlock in Warlock III: End of Innocence. I do like the second movie most of all.
In all, this is a pretty good movie to watch during the Halloween season, and one of those classics you won’t get tired of. Definitely worth checking into, especially the more far superior sequel.
Till next time, stay scared!
